Charlamagne Tha God Promotes New Book By Sharing His Political Opinions

Charlamagne Tha God, who was born Lenard Larry McKelvey in 1978, is a radio personality, known for several television appearances and as host of Power105. He was featured on Guy Code, debates hip-hop music on Power106, and is co-cost of The Brilliant Idiots podcast.

He was recently a guest on another podcast – HBCU 468. He discussed his life’s troubles, his anxiety, and political topics while promoting his new book. The book is called Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks On Me, and it contains a life-time of self reflection. Charlamange said that he has learned a lot from his younger self;however, his younger years have lead to a lot of anxiety.

The title of the book comes from two classic hip hop songs: Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones” and Geto Boys’ “My Mind’s Playing Tricks On Me.” By incorporating these two songs into his book title, Charlamagne is foreshadowing its content. He is letting readers know ahead of time that this is a scared person going through problems.

Charlamange explained that in his younger years he did a lot of things because he was scared, while believing he was doing them because he was fearless. He credits his fears as being causes by fights, racism, and other struggles.

The star of Power105’s Breakfast Club often used a term called “blackanoid” in his book. Charlamagne defines this term simply as being black and paranoid. In the book, a person will learn exactly why Charlamagne decided to start attending therapy at the age of 39.

Charlamagne also talked about the #MeToo movement and the NFL’s controversy with kneeling. He said he was unable to enjoy the sport to its fullest extent while the issues regarding police brutality are brought up so consistently. As for the #MeToo movement, Charlamagne said that he is all for the #MeToo movement. Because he has so many girls at home – 2 little girls with a third one on the way – he is all for women being empowered.

Alongside Angela Yee and Dj Envy, Charlamange hosts Power105’s Breakfast Club radio show. Charlamange is the controversial figure in the group, often arguing with guests on the show and questioning their legitimacy.

As a child, he found himself in trouble with the police, being arrest a total of 3 times. He came into the radio business alongside Wendy Williams, but he eventually found his own success as a hip-hop commentator.
